WHAT

Ghost Recon has the facility to load add-on packs for additional maps, weapons kits, missions, etc. There are lots of files available to download serving many different purposes.

NOTE: Most downloads are links to files at www.fileplanet.com. At the top of the Fileplanet download page it shows Your Personal Server (which cost $7/month to subscribe to) but further down the page it shows the Public Servers which are used if you don't have an account.

HOW

After the file has downloaded, uncompress the file (using WinZip, Winace, etc) if required.

1) If the filename ends with '.exe' then double click and ensure the path shown corresponds to your installation directory (see below).

2) If the filename doesn't end with '.exe' then the first thing to do is search for a README.txt or derivitive file which generally contains installation tips. Generally, any download that is a folder goes into the 'Mods' directory whereas individual files ending .mis goes into the Mods / Origmiss / Mission folder.

WHERE (To)

Basically, any download which is a full mod should be created as a seperate folder within the MODS subdirectory of your main Ghost Recon installation directory. For example, if you installed Ghost Recon to the default directory the structure will be as follows:

NOTE: The Mods directory should only contain folders!!! If there are any individual files you will find blank entries in your mods list within Ghost Recon!

HINTS

It's a good idea to download GR Mod Manager. With this you can change the active mods without launching Ghost Record. If you don't have a mod active but you want to host a game with that mod then you normally have to launch GR, select the required mods then leave in order to join the game. With the mod manager it is made so much simpler.
